FAQ

I Place a Bid and It Immediately Goes to My Maximum, what's wrong?

AntiqueGuns.com auctions work differently than eBay. If the Seller's Reserve has not been met, the bid will be raised to your maximum upon submission of the bid. (MAX BID). We do this to encourage sellers to drop below their reserve.  If a seller knows he is looking at your best offer, he is more likely to reduce his reserve to meet your max.

What is the difference between a Reserve and a Starting Bid?

The starting bid is just a place to start. It is nothing more than that. The reserve is the safety net the Seller sets so he is not required to sell an item below his cost. Being able to set reserves is why many great items will be auctioned on internet auctions that will never make it to the standard auction house. All dealers know that in standard auctions, about 20% of the items will go for high values, but the remaining 80% they will loose their shirts on. Some buyers complain about the reserves, but the alternative is that they would never have a chance to purchase the item. Also since Sellers can move items quicker in the auction format, they are frequently willing to sell for lesser markups than through Personal Stores or gun shows.

Why doesn't the Seller post his reserve?

Some sellers will tell you their reserve. Not posting the reserve is what makes auctions different than Classifieds. Also a seller may be willing to accept something less than his reserve if you are close.

How do I leave Feedback?

Click on the second number after the sellers User Name.  Then scroll below the feedback and find the box to leave feedback. Or you can click on the link in the sidebar that says FEEDBACK, but you will need to know the User Name.

How do I read Feedback?

Click the second number behind the Seller's name, that is the number of positive or negative comments currently associated with that person. At the bottom of the page to view feedback, is a box to enter feedback. Also a link to view FEEDBACK is on the links in the sidebar.

How do I Sell an item?

You must first register, the link is in the Header links.  Once you receive your User Name and Password by E-mail, go to the main page and in the header at the top of page is a link that says, "For Sellers: Sell and item. How do I edit or end a Current Auction?

In the header, click on "Manage Current Auctions." Click that button and you will get a confirmation window confirming you want to end the auction.  Confirm the command and your auction has ended.

How do I return expired Auctions to Active Status?

This is where AntiqueGuns.com is heads and shoulders above the competition. You can do all your manipulating of files in bulk. In the header links, click on the link that says, "Returned and Saved Auctions."  Scroll down the list of auctions, checking the ones you want to return, and at the bottom of the page select the date and time you want the auctions to end and click on the button that says, "Send to Auction." You will get a confirmation window, be sure to confirm your command.

How do I change my Password or e-mail address?

In the header links, you will find a link to, "Edit Profile." You can post rules of your auctions, change the e-mail message that goes to all high bidders and change any other things in your profile here.  Make sure to hit, "Submit" at the bottom of the page after you made all changes.

How much does it cost to sell on AntiqueGuns.com?

How do I retract my bid?

You need to contact the webmaster, at webmaster@antiqueguns.com. You must supply the item number. Which is the Sellers handle with a dash and a number. (Example: robles-1357) and make a request to remove the bid. There is no guarantee that your bid will be removed, the administrator travels and will not always see your request before an auction ends, so before you submit a bid be certain it is correct.

I forgot my password, how can I get it?

At the top of the auction page in the header and on the bottom of the main auction page is a link to "Password Lookup." Click that, type in your e-mail address and your password will be e-mailed to you.

What are grounds for having password suspended?

Sellers who conduct business in an unethical manner. Already one large seller who grossly over described his items and sold items not in his possession has been banned from the site. Sellers who charge restocking fees will be banned from the site. If items are described accurately, good photos are taken, few items will be shipped back. So there is no need for restocking fees.

Buyers who meet reserves and refuse to go through with purchases can have their password suspended on the first offense.

Either party who received 6 or more negative comments. Any party who violates the other ground rules of the site.

Buyers will not be suspended if they are the high bidder, and do not meet the reserve. Subsequently, if the Seller decides to accept a price below his reserve. The Buyers have no obligation to follow through with the transaction. Sellers are encouraged to post the lowest reserve they will accept. A Buyer can assume that if his high bid does not meet the reserve, he is free to bid on other items and has no obligation to the item he has not met the reserve on.

What about Inspection Periods?

A 3-5 day inspection period is assumed on every item sold through AntiqueGuns.com. The inspection includes the right to return an item for full refund, less cost to ship and insure. As long as the item is returned unaltered and in the same condition as received.

Some situations make a 3 day inspection impossible. So where less than a 3 day inspection is being allowed, it must be clearly stated in the item description or Sellers rules visible with his description.

When I register, will you sell my name and address?

Your name and address will never be sold for other businesses to Spam you. If you post your e-mail address, it will be possible for people viewing the site to send you information. Use you handle where ever possible to minimize that.

As a registered user, you will from time to time, receive notifications from AntiqueGuns.com. When there are special offerings or notifications you will receive e-mail messages. There is currently no way to keep registered users from receiving these mailings, short of suspending your registration.

How do I register?

At the top of the main auction page, in the header is a link to "Register." Click there, fill out the form. Choose an obscure "Handle" most of the common ones have been taken already. If you select a handle that has been used you will be bounced back to a blank registration page to fill out again.

Upon completely filling out the form, you will get a message saying the form has been accepted and you will be e-mailed your password and user name. See above to change your password. If you have a mistake in your e-mail address, you will not receive the password. If you don't get the information in 5-10 minutes something is wrong, you probably had a type error in your e-mail address. Try again and make sure your e-mail address is correct.
