Ive had the gun bug ever since I was gunners mate in the USN.I was the LEFT MANUAL CONTROL OPERATOR OF 5" 54 GUN. i ACTUALLY FIRED ONE ROUND FROM THAT GUN WHICH AT THE TIME COULD FIRE A SALVO OF 60 ROUNDS A MIN.THE PROJECTILE WEIGHED 70LBS THE POWDER SHELL WEIGHED 35 LBS AND COULD PROPELL THE SHELL ABOUT 20 MILES.AT THE TIME 1963 THESE WERE VERY ADVANCED UTILIZING ELECTRO NEUMACTIC AND HYDRAULIC OPERATION. WE ALSO HAD A FIRE CONTROL CENTER TO AUTOMACTICLY AIM THESE BIG GUNS. USING SOME THING NEW IT WAS CALLED A COMPUTER....INFORMATION WAS FED IN TO THE COMPUTER SHIP SPEED, YAWL, PITCH AND ROLL. POSITION, HEADING, WIND SPEED TARGET POSITION, RANGE, SPEED HEADING.........AWSOM YOU BET UPON MY HONORABLE DISCHARGE IN 66 I TOOK A JOB AS A SALESMAN.. ON MY WEEKENDS I WENT HUNTING. RABBITS, QUAIL FEASANT AND O YES DEER HUNTING EVERY FALL........MY FIRST YEAR AT THE HEIGHT OF DEER SEASON I WENT TO A WESTERN AUTO TO BUY A WINCHESTER 30-30 SRC... THEY WERE SOLD OUT.......THEY HAD USED WINS AS WELL BUT NO 30-30.... SO THE CLERK SAYS THE ONLY THING I GOT IN WINCHESTER IS A USED 25-35 WITH A REDFIELD SCOPE........I SAID HOW MUCH HE SAID I CAN LET YA HAVE IT FOR $85. I SAID ILL TAKE IT......AND A BOX OF SHELLS $3,59 ...I WAS ALL SET......THIS RIFLE WAS NICE ALMOST LIKE NEW AND IT HAD A SLING EYES AND ALL WITH A LEATHER STRAP... I DIDNT KNOW HOW IMPORTANT A LEATHER STRAP WAS TILL I SHOT MY FIRT 8 POINT BUCK AND HAD TO DRAG HIM DOWN THE MOUNTAIN ABOUT 2 MILES TO BASE CAMP......YOU TRY TO PULL A DEER THAT WEIGHS IN AT 170 LBS..........YOU GOT YOUR RIFLE OR CARBINE STRAPED OVER YOUR BACK. YOU HUFFING AND PUFFING WHILE SMOKING YOUR MARLBORO CIGARETT . YOUR RED BALL PACKS ARE CRUNCHING THROUGH THE SNOW .. OH GOD HOW MUCH FARTHER.....ITS COLD TODAY YOUR GLAD YOU WORE YOUR THERMAL UNDERWARE AND YOUR RED AND BLACK WOOL RICH HUNTING JACKET AND MATCHING PANTS....OH I CANT WAIT TO GET BACK TO CAMP AND HAVE A REAL NICE HOT CUP OF COFFEE.......THE MORAL TO THIS TRUE STORY........DONT LEAVE BASE CAMP WITH OUT RIFLE OR CARBINE WITH SLING EYES AND A LEATHER STRAP............ATTENTION COLLECTORS NEXT TIME YOU LOOK AT A SRC WITH SLINGS EYES REMEMBER WHY THERE THERE .............ITS THE HUNT NOT THE KILL RONNIE
