Nearly all the war-time Colt Model 1860s were made on order of the US Army, which bought at least 127,000 of these 1860 model Colts for use in the War Between the States. This one is Serial 73682 and so was made in 1862 in time to be used in most of the famous battles of the War.
This gun has not been cleaned – it is just as it was put away many years ago in the attic. The metal is a nice patina color.
The cylinder serial matches. The nipples are newly replaced and look like new – I suspect this was set up for a shooter. The barrel bore is better than most of these black powder guns, with clear and sharp rifling.
The mechanics are crisp, with both the hammer locking solidly at both full and half cock, and the cylinder locks up nicely when at full cock.
The wood grips fit perfectly. The inspector’s cartouche on the right side is still present; this is the mark showing this Colt 1860 Army was accepted by the US inspector and Colt was due payment for this gun at the contract rate.
This is a War issued Colt Army .44 in the condition most sought after, complete, solid and with a nice attractive appearance. It was shipped from Colt well in time for the great battles of 1863. If you could have only one handgun to represent the War, this could be the one.
I have noticed that these solid but used Colt Army revolvers are getting harder to find.
I am offering this locally and elsewhere, so consider using the Buy it Now feature.

I will ship outside of the US, but it is not possible to fully insure items once they are outside of the U.S. postal system...but if the buyer accepts this responsibility of possible damage or loss, and if he checks his Customs laws and is legal to import this particular antique weapon, then I MAY ship outside the USA, depending on the country involved. I know the federal laws about shipping antiques, and will follow them always...but you must make sure that it is legal for you where you live to receive and possess the item you want to buy. Please e-mail for any unclear terms.
