I saw the major pawnbroker which sells its trash on 1 of 2 modern gun auction sites had such a gun & I wrote both the trashmongers & the site about it. Both told me to mind my own business. The figures are less than 800,000 for Springfield; 240,000 for Rock Island. Now there are those foolhardy folks hereabouts who argue that old damascus barrel shotguns are safe to shoot & do so. Allowing we have 1 set of eyes, 10 fingers, etc.,. I cannot imagine jeopardizing any. I used to drive a blind fellow & would not care to be blinded of my own stupidity. Having gotten my digs in, some years ago the gov't would trade you a high number for one of low numbers. Why considered dangerous? single heat treatment a la Krags. The actions are brittle.
