Unusual Bowie Knife

I have just acquired a very large and unusual Bowie which I believe to be mid-19th century US made. The blade is 10.5 inches long with a narrower choil that spreads out to 2.75 inches wide and then narrows to a wicked point. Th efirst 4 inches of the blade spine has decorative scalloping. The hilt is a large staghorn antler with the crown intact being the pommel which is 1.5 inches wide. There is no pommel cap or visible tang. The knife is very well made and on the ricasso there is an 8-pointed star/sunburst with a circle in it and the letters TEX underneath. This is a serious and intimidating knife and I would appreciate any information on it.
