Salter made bayonets along with other precision metal products. Do a google search for further info.

During the CW when the South (and north) was buying arms from the Birmingham Small Arms trade, a Salter made bayonet may have been included with a Birmingham (Tower) gun. Salter bayonets have turned up in the US with the BSAT stamp indicating they were sold by the Trade, most likely being included with arms shipments. Another consideration must be the large numbers of Tower P-53 Enfields sold without any BSAT markings. These came with bayonets and it is reasonable to assume that Salter made bayonets could have been included with shipments of P-53 Enfields and not exhibit the BSAT stamp. IMO the most common P-53 bayonet used by North or South will exhibit inspection marks and no other markings other than in some cases the BSAT stamp.
