$2,100.00

GR-0625-6581, Colt Model 1860 Army with a 3 screw frame. The metal is mostly smooth grey with clear markings. There are traces of original blue finish on the bottom of the barrel and traces of original case color on the frame in protected places. Serial number 67,xxx matches on the barrel, frame, trigger-guard, back-strap, cylinder and cylinder pin. There is no number on the wedge but it looks like an original Colt wedge from the 1860s. The gun shows military sub-inspector marks on all the parts of the gun. The cylinder scene is excellent, crisp and clear with 95% + cylinder scene. The grips are slightly undersized, they were slightly cleaned at some point but there are traces of cartouches on both sides of the grips. The gun was made in 1862 and was certainly issued to a union soldier immediately. The mechanics are crisp and tight. The bore is bright, crisply rifled with some light scattered residue. Very good bore. The gun is overall in very good condition and much better than average and a mid war 1860 Army.

The Colt Model 1860 Army was one of the most important sidearms of the Civil War and a defining firearm of its era. Built on the same frame as the earlier 1851 Navy revolver, it was beefed up to handle .44 caliber rounds, giving it more stopping power without adding too much weight. Colt achieved this by using a rebated cylinder and thinning the barrel, which gave it that distinctive streamlined look.

Introduced in—you guessed it—1860, the Army revolver quickly became a favorite among Union troops. It was powerful, accurate, and easy to handle for its time. Over 200,000 were produced during the war, making it one of the most widely issued handguns of the conflict. Officers, cavalrymen, and foot soldiers alike relied on it in the thick of battle.

What really makes the 1860 Army stand out historically is how it helped set the standard for military sidearms going forward. It marked the peak of Colt’s percussion revolver development and showed what a well-balanced combat handgun could look like before the shift to cartridge firearms.

Collectors love them not just for their performance and craftsmanship, but because these guns were there—used and carried during the most pivotal years of American history.
