079-0121-1876, Sharps M-1863. Id’d in the Civil War Sharps Carbines & Rifles book. Id’d to Andrew Bates, private in Indiana 7th Cav. Andrew Mustered into H company on Sep. 4th 1863. He was mustered out Feb. 2nd 1866. He was a resident of Tippecanoe County Indiana. Indiana 7th Cav saw action in Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. The unit was involved in a handful skirmishes. This gun would have originally been percussion and carried around by Andrew while it was in original percussion. After the Civil war, the gun was converted to .50 cal CF. and carried west on the Frontier for the Indian Wars. It is too bad we do not have the history of the use on the frontier too.

The gun has 60% deep blue mixing to brown. Moderate bumps and dings to stock with 2 visible but light cartouches on stock. The frame shows about 70% rainbow hues that has slightly toned and is mixing to brown patina. Bright excellent bore with early 7 grove rifling. Fine plus overall.
