GR79-0922-4339, Remington OM Navy with 1861 date on barrel, with 80% period renickel. Nickel has fallen out of the markings and no buffing prior to addition of nickel. The grips have been lightly cleaned and then oiled. Light bumps and dings to grips with patches of dark staining on the metal where nickel has fallen off. Crisp tight mechanics, the cylinder locks up tight. Bright and shiny bore, it is crisply rifled. Fine bore. Serial number 214xx matches on barrel, back of cylinder and frame. There are military inspector marks everywhere on the gun but the grips. There looks like there may be traces of a cartouche on the left grip but I cannot say for sure. If issued to the military it would not have been nickeled but the nickel was applied in the 1800, so it was either never accepted by the military or issued to the military and then refinished right after the war I would guess. Crisp metal edges, really a good looking nickel gun. Fine plus as nickeled.
