GR-0525-6596, 1st Model Smith and Wesson Schofield. .45 Schofield cal. Military issued. US on Butt. Rack Number 21 on butt. Serial number 47xx matches on the frame, cylinder, barrel, latch and latch screw. The right grip is also stamped with the matching serial number, it is correct for only the right grip to be stamped. Both grips are cartouched. The exterior of the gun shows flashes of original blue that has been touched up with an old re-blue. The gun was not cleaned before the re-blue and it looks like a very old re-blue. The metal markings are all crisp and clear. The hammer, trigger-guard and top latch catch show flashes of case color with rainbow hues turning into a mottled brown. The right grip shows an old brand mark that has had some filler put into it. The brand looks like a Q. The gun shows overall evidence of use but never cleaned or sanded wood. The rack number 21 was probably placed on the gun by a police department that purchased this gun after they were removed from service by the US military. I have seen similar marks but usually with SF or C (for Chicago) police departments. The mechanics are crisp and tight. The bore is bright, shiny, crisply rifled with a few fine light spots. Fine condition bore. Very good to fine exterior.
