$3,900.00

079-0426-9416      Rogers and Spencer Army, 6 shot, 44 caliber. 7.5” octagonal barrel. SN: 49xx. Blued finish, color casehardened hammer and loading lever, smooth flared oil finished walnut grips. Top strap roll marked on either side of the sighting groove “ROGERS & SPENCER” and “UTICA N-Y”. Left grip with crisp script RPB cartouche, the mark of arsenal sub-inspector Robert P Beals who inspected the Rogers & Spencer contract. Beals’ small capital “B” marks are present on the bottoms of the grips and on most major components. Matching serial numbers on the butt, frame, cylinder, barrel, loading lever and in both grips. The Rogers & Spencer was the pinnacle of percussion single action revolver design, but the 5,000 guns ordered by the Ordnance Department were only starting to be delivered in early 1865 as the Civil War was winding down. Only 1,500 guns were delivered prior to the cessation of hostilities, and none were issued for field service. The guns were subsequently sold off at auction as surplus. A solid example of the last of the Civil War percussion revolver contracts and a gun that book ends any Civil War revolver collection.

Condition:Excellent plus. Revolver retains 90% of the original blued finish with some areas of thinning and fading, particularly on the cylinder. Loading lever and hammer with much of their dulled and muted case colors intact. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Excellent bore is bright with crisp rifling. Grips near fine with some wear and minor chipping along the sharp, flared lower edges. Otherwise grips with some scattered minor marks and dings.

Antique, est. value:  $4500

Shipping Policy

PLEASE READ

We accept Check, Money Order, Credit Card, Wire, etc.

If you send a Cashier’s Check or Money order, items will get shipped immediately. If you send a personal check, we will wait for the check to clear before shipping. Please send an invoice with payment, it makes it easier to keep track of payments that way. Also, please be sure your shipping address is correct.

CREDIT CARD FEES: Domestic: 3.5%. International: 6.0%

WIRES: If sending a wire add $30

INSURANCE: We will only insure through the mail carrier when specifically asked to.

Shipping does not include insurance through courier. We carry our own insurance but there is a $1000 deductible. If you would like your box insured through the shipping company, the cost is $10 and you add an additional $1 for every hundred dollars’ worth of insurance that you want. $1000 insured value = $20. We do our best to package items as secure as we can, in the previous 6 years we have had 3 guns broken (all 3 were muskets) and we have shipped thousands of guns. USPS is difficult to get money out of even if you do insure through the USPS.

Cost: US $1 per $100 in value, plus $10. Ex. $1500 Insurance = $15 + $10 = $25
