GR-0525-6612, Winchester Model 1866 3rd Model Carbine, #26xxx with wonderful rich untouched patina on the brass, also showing strong flashes of green residue in protected places. Made in 1869. The forearm shows light use marks. Fine wood to metal fit, the butt stock has been off the gun at some point. The stocks has had some light oil rubbed over the original varnish. There are a few rub spots on the wood. There is a rich dark patina on the barrel with a clear barrel address. It has had a long range tang site applied and the rear sight changed out to a simple single slot sight for close up targets and the tang sight is used for greater distance shooting. The work is period and customized by someone using the gun a long time ago. The simple site for close targets and the tang site for when needing to shoot something farther away. It is in original .44 RF. The bore is bright, crisply rifled with scattered fine spots and light residue the length of the bore. Very good bore. This is a very handsome gun and much better than the average brass framed gun. People can often not help themselves and clean brass guns bright. It is not often you find a brass frame gun with dark untouched patina with the green residue, like this gun has. The mechanics are functional and smooth. There is no slop with the lever. Very good to fine overall. I have seriously thought about hanging this gun on my wall. Much better than average.
