GR-0725-6617, Remington New Model Army in .44 percussion. Excellent Bore! BUY NOW

$1,600.00

GR-0725-6617, Remington New Model Army in .44 percussion. 6 shot. 8 inch barrel. There are strong flashes of medium blue on the barrel, cylinder, frame and lever. I would say there is about 15%-20% overall original blue finish. The metal edges are crisp, the barrel address is crisp and clear. The gun retains all of the military inspector marks that you would expect to see on a military issued Remington from the 1860s. The grips are very nice, with a crisp clear cartouche, wood to metal fit is great. Someone has put some oil on the grips to prevent them from drying, cracking and breaking. I would rate the grips to be in fine condition and much better than average. Serial number is 90,xxx and matches on the barrel, back of cylinder and frame. The bore is excellent. The mechanics are crisp and tight. Should make an excellent shooter.

The Remington New Model Army was one of the most respected and widely used revolvers of the Civil War era. Introduced in 1863, it was an improvement over earlier Remington Old Model design and quickly became a very successful military handgun. Chambered in .44 caliber, it was built solidly with a top strap over the cylinder—unlike the open-top design of Colt revolvers—which made it stronger and better able to handle rough use in the field.

Soldiers appreciated the Remington for a few key reasons. First, it was extremely durable and held up well under battlefield conditions. The solid frame gave it a reputation for strength and reliability, even after heavy use. Second, it was easier and faster to reload than most competitors. Unlike the Colt, the Remington had a cylinder that could be removed quickly and swapped with a loaded spare—something troops really valued when time was tight.

In terms of effectiveness, the New Model Army delivered everything a soldier needed. It was accurate, powerful, and dependable. Many Union troops preferred it over the Colt once they had a chance to use both. In fact, after the war, a number of veterans chose to purchase their issued Remington’s and take them home, which says a lot about how highly they were regarded.

Overall, the Remington New Model Army wasn’t just a sidearm—it was a serious combat tool, and one of the most effective revolver systems of the entire war.
