GR-0726-6815, Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine. 3rd Model. Serial number 121,XXX, made in 1874. 20 inch barrel. .44 RF cal. This 66 has the best brass I have ever seen on a model 1866. The brass has never been cleaned, the patina is perfectly untouched. dark mustard color with patina so rich in some places it almost looks like tarnished silver. The wood is in fine condition, like the brass it is untouched. There are a few scattered fine bumps and from handling it over the years but never abused. Wood to metal fit is excellent. The barrel, magazine tube and barrel bands retain 5-10% of the original finish. There is thin streaking blue on parts of the barrel and the rest is mixing to an even handsome brown patina. The load port piece has lots of original blue on it as well as the top of the bolt visible in the hole on top of the frame. The sides of the hammer have some silvered case color but the back of the hammer shows some bright case colors. The load lever has patina’d and has some fine peppering. The actions is crisp and tight. The bore is excellent. The model 1866 is quite legendary, the Yellow Boy earned its strong reputation through historical impact, reliability, and cultural significance. It is one of the guns that “Won the West”. They were often used hard and today are often found in hard used condition. 20 years ago we sold one with nearly all the blue on the barrel, this gun has better brass then that gun. It has been in my collection for some time and has been a pleasure to own. In my care it has been babied and  handled as little as possible. If you understand how hard it is to find a brass gun with this type of untouched look you will really appreciate this gun. Fine overall condition.
