$4,500.00

GR-1023-4925, Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 Frontier Single Action. 44-40 cal. Original 5 inch barrel. 1 9/16 inch long cylinder. This was the last batch of #3’s that Smith made. They made a late batch 1885-1908 in 44-40. There were 2072 guns in this batch and they started started the serial numbers at 1 for this batch. They made a batch in 44-40 to compete with the popular Colt SA. This way you could shoot your 44-40 in your Win 73 rifle as well as your pistol and there was no need to carry more than 1 type of cartridge.

This gun is excellent. I have handled a number of these over the years, many of these late batch guns were converted back to 44 Russian cal because that was Smith’s strongest market at the time. Serial number 19xx matches on the frame, cylinder barrel and latch. Excellent checkered grips. The guns retains 85% original blue mixing to a dark patina where there is no blue. Excellent bore. Crisp tight mechanics. There is lots of blue in the cylinder. Gun has been fired very little. There are flashes of bright case color on the hammer and trigger-guard. The rest of the case colors have silvered. When I have found this model, the cylinder is often mismatched because the gun was sent back to Smith and another cylinder was put in the gun to be able to fire 44 Russian, of those converted to 44 Russian many were shipped to Japan. Very few that I have seen are unaltered and totally matching. This means this gun was made and used somewhere in the American Market. This Smith is worthy of being in a great Smith & Wesson collection. Very difficult gun to find unaltered and in this condition.

CREDIT CARD FEES: Domestic: 3.5%. International: 6.0%

Shipping does not include insurance through courier. We carry our own insurance but there is a $1000 deductible. If you would like your box insured through the shipping company, the cost is $10 and you add an additional $1 for every hundred dollars’ worth of insurance that you want. $1000 insured value = $20. We do our best to package items as secure as we can, in the previous 6 years we have had 3 guns broken (all 3 were muskets) and we have shipped thousands of guns. USPS is difficult to get money out of even if you do insure through the USPS.
