GR-1223-5058, Remington NM Transition Army .44, 6 shot with a fine quality custom engraving. This is a civilian revolver with fine grips that have a few light bumps. The trigger guard has about 30% original silver. The wood to metal fit is excellent. The custom engraving is excellent. I do not think it is from the 1800s but the remaining blue finish is about 50% original blue finish still on the gun. Aerial number 19xxx matches on the barrel, cylinder, frame and appears to be penciled on the inside of each grip. The number is double stamped. I believe this what has happened here is the gun was a plain civilian in really great condition and at some point in the 1900s someone had it engraved right over the top of the original finish. Bright, shiny bore, razor crisp rifling with a tiny bit of light residue and a lot of original blue still in the bore. Excellent bore. Such an engraving would cost at least $2000 to the engraver.
