GR79-0123-4043, Confederate Captured with Original Brass Texas Rosette installed on holster flap.  The Colt M-1860 Army, Early, 4 screw, #7xxx matching all over. This gun comes in a US issued Flap Holster with cartouche that reads, MANUFACTURED BY, J.E. CONDIOT, 57 WHITE ST., NEW YORK.  So this is a US issued Colt M-1860 Army with inspector marks and grip cartouches. The cartouche on the right grip is faint but the cartouche on the left grip is clearly visible.  There is about 85% cylinder scene and traces of blue on backstrap and barrel. There are thin traces of case color on frame and lever.  Crisp tight action. The interesting thing about this is that the holster has a brass rosette identical to one found in the book by Richard Mather Ahlstromn, entitled, TEXAS CIVIL WAR ARTIFACTS.  On page #193.  The one photographed in the book is from a horse bridle and the same size as this one.  The rosette on the holster is fine quality and original and looks to be in better condition than the one in the book. The one in the book was dug.  When you lift the  edge of the rosette, you can see copper staining on the leather and depression that rosette has been on the holster since term of service.

You have a wonderful old 4 screw Colt Army, untouched, in a US issued holster.  How the item is presented is exactly how I found it. It appears to be an honest Confederate captured or carried south by a soldier who was serving in the Union side, but decided to join the Confederate ranks.  A Confederate item with Texas usage is highly desired.  The book will come with the Gun & Holster.
