$2,500.00

GR79-0123-4509, 1st Model Alin  Conversion of Springfield Percussion Musket, c. 1865 to .58 RF, 50% toned rainbow hues on lock and hammer. The breech and barrel show 75% deep oil quenched metal.  Barrel has been shortened to 36. inches. It was shortened at the time of conversion.  Flayderman’s guide warns of spurious alterations, but most have incorrectly spaced bands, typical of back of 3 band spacing.  These bands are correctly spaced for a 36 inch gun. This gun is NOT in the configuration of dealer shortened rifles, but of a Military Alteration. The stock does not ever appear to have been been altered or sanded. The left side of the stock is cartouched, with 2 faint cartouches. They are worn and I cannot make out the letter clearly in the cartouches but it is correct to have 2 cartouches.  One cartouche looks like the first letter is an E, which would be correct because it should have an ESA cartouche. Stalk shows moderate bumps and dings from honest light use.  Traces of ESA cartouche is visible but bumps on it make it difficult to see.  Bright fine bore, there is some dust in bore but looks like it will clean right out. Very hard to get and usually most sought after conversion of a M-1863 Musket, fine plus overall.  Flayderman’s values at fine at $3500.
