GR79-0123-4517, Early Lancaster Style Irish Percussion Howdah Pistol. This is the double barrel style. The maker is Kavanagh and marked Dublin on the top of the barrel with silver medallion on the spine of the checkered stock. The lock, hammer, frame and trigger guard are all factory engraved. The metal is mottled grey. It is a smooth bore and gauges to .69 cal, smooth bore with scattered mottled residue spots in the bore. These pistols originated as more reliable weapons to conventional single shot pistols of the time. They were originally used by officers in India for big game hunts. The officers liked them so much, they began to use them in the military. Most Howdah pistols were cartridge so this is a very rare percussion model. Also very desirable Irish Maker, Very good overall.
