GR79-0223-4601, Scarce Enfield Barnett Pattern 1856 Cavalry Carbine. The gun was manufactured by John Edward Barnett & Sons of London, a maker that truly deserves the name “Gun Maker To The Confederacy”. Tim Prince, of College Hill Arsenal has a fantastic write up about these firearms and the history of them. I could never describe the history as eloquently as he does here. .

The example we have here is a very good example of one of a hard to find Civil War Carbines. Metal markings are all correct and crisp and clear. The lock retains about 15% original bright case color with the reminder having turned to a modeled patina. The barrel has about 15% original blue finish mixing to an even and handsome chocolate patina. Crisp tight mechanics. Bright and shiny, crisply rifled bore that is in fine condition. The rear site is original and correct. All brass parts retain an even mustard color that takes years to build up and there is no way to replicate. The stock shows only honest use and carry wear. They gun does not appear to have ever been abused. Much better than average for a Pattern 56 Cavalry Carbine. Fine overall condition.
