GR79-0621-5170, English Blunderbuss with Flip Bayonet. BUY NOW
GR79-0621-5170, English Blunderbuss with Flip Bayonet. Gun date to the first quarter of the 19th century. Flints with a roller on the frizzen spring are late flints and typical of guns made 1820-1840. Maker is probably Phineas Perry who was working in England 1820-1840s. The gun has a two-stage octagon to round barrel with baluster turned rings at the transition. It has a flat, stepped, beveled lock with a flat faceted swan neck cock. It has a rounded, fenced and bridled
water proof pan with a roller frizzen. Brass furniture, open work side plate, stock with raised carved apron around the breech plug tang. Mechanics are functional. The spring on the bayonet works and flips the bayonet just like it should. It has a 2 screw lock with 14 inch barrel. These guns were used by numerous branches of world wide military services during the 1700’s. English Cavalry, Dragoons, and Sailers all carried these into battle. Stage coaches typically had one, law enforcement and were used extensively by Civilians in the period. The bayonet model was probably used by sailers, but not exclusively. Crisp edged wood, never sanded, with some decorative carving. Mottled grey/brown with spots of salt and pepper staining, but no exterior pits. Very good to fine overall.
