GR79-1021-5340, Colt M-1862 Police with 5 1/2 inch barrel with factory made, (but not Colt Factory) brass shoulder stock, that is numbered, but not numbered to this gun with mounting bracket on bottom of grip strap. Overall dark chocolate patina with traces of thin case color on frame and thin blue in protected places. The grips have never been sanded and though the gun show handling marks, it shows less than average. These gun smith style shoulder stocks are not common but made enough, they were simply not flukes. These Colts were well made and accurate, the stocks made them more accurate at longer ranges. So on the frontier or where other guns were not available, these sorts of things must have been made to increase usability. Crisp tight mechanics. The bore bright, rifling is strong with scattered fine spots and light surface residue throughout bore. Bore still has life left. Very good overall, and a period made up example of a shoulder stock pistol. The brass is old and has never been cleaned or messed with. Neat old gun.
