GR79-1222-4480, US M-1841 Rifle Musket, Mississippi Rifle, by E. Whittney and dated 1854 in .58 cal, with deep 7 groved rifling. The bore is bright and shiny, crisply rifled with a few fine scattered spots. Much better than average bore. The stock shows light wear. Moderate bumps, dings and use marks. Some metal staining on the lock and fine pinpricks on the lock. Replaced rear sight. Lightly cleaned barrel and brass. Functional action. The Remington Zouave rifles were basically a copy of the Mississippi rifle, with nearly the exact same configuration. Even though these guns were made prior to the war they were popular among soldiers during the Civil War because they were a very effective weapon and easier to carry than the longer muskets. Very good overall, there is some value add if you can find the correct replaced parts and for those looking for a good shooter, I am sure this would do the job.
